Recognition highlights the company's innovation in sensor-based monitoring technology for correctional facilities and senior care

Oct 29, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas, October 29, 2026– Rahm Sensor Development, Inc., developer of Cell-Guardian and Silver-Guardian monitoring solutions, has been named the 2026 Startup of the Year at the 9th Annual Inventor Celebration hosted by Texas Tech University.

The award recognizes Rahm Sensor Development's progress in commercializing innovative sensor technology developed within the Texas Tech University System and expanding its applications in public safety and senior care.

Founded by Vik Ramprakash, Rahm Sensor Development combines Doppler radar, artificial intelligence, and computer vision technologies to provide continuous monitoring without requiring wearable devices or physical contact. Its monitoring solutions are designed to help personnel identify potential emergencies, improve situational awareness, and respond more quickly to critical incidents.

"We are honored to receive this recognition from Texas Tech University," said Vik Ramprakash, Founder of Rahm Sensor Development, Inc. "What began as an innovative application of sensor technology has evolved into monitoring solutions that address important challenges in correctional facilities and senior care. This award reflects the dedication of our team, the support of Texas Tech's innovation community, and the confidence of our customers who are putting this technology to work."

Advancing Monitoring Technology Across Industries

Rahm Sensor Development has commercialized its technology through two monitoring solutions designed to address the needs of different care environments.

Cell-Guardian provides continuous in-cell monitoring for correctional facilities, combining radar, thermal imaging, digital video, and AI-powered behavior analysis to help staff detect potential emergencies involving high-risk inmates. The system provides real-time alerts and visual information that supports informed decisions and faster response during incidents involving falls, inactivity, and other potentially dangerous behaviors.

Silver-Guardian applies sensor-based monitoring technology to senior care environments, helping caregivers identify potential emergencies and respond to individuals who may need assistance.

Both solutions operate without requiring individuals to wear monitoring devices, supporting continuous observation while reducing the need for physical interaction.

With installations across multiple states, Rahm Sensor Development continues to expand the commercial reach of its technology.

From University Innovation to Commercial Success

Rahm Sensor Development participated in Cohort 9 of the Texas Tech Accelerator and has benefited from the resources, mentorship, and commercialization support provided by the Texas Tech Innovation Hub and Research Commercialization at Texas Tech.

The company's selection as 2026 Startup of the Year recognizes its progress in translating university-developed technology into commercial solutions that address real-world operational challenges.

"This recognition is an important milestone for our company, but we are even more excited about what lies ahead," added Ramprakash. "We remain focused on advancing our technology, expanding our reach, and giving correctional officers and caregivers better tools to recognize potential emergencies and respond when every second counts."
